Lifecycle assessments

A lifecycle assessment is a quantitative evaluation procedure. It evaluates the material and energy flows of building products, systems or processes according to the problems for the site, individual life stages or over the entire lifecycle. The international standards for the preparation of lifecycle assessments are defined in ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. Lifecycle assessments are part of Environmental Product Declarations – Type III environmental declarations according to ISO 14025 and EN 15804 and may, but do not have to, be used to assess the building product within the framework of ecolabels such as natureplus or the IBO mark of conformity. Last but not least, lifecycle assessments also enable manufacturers to optimise production processes.
