Plus-Energy-Campus
Energy-flexible plus-energy campus with living lab

The "Plus-Energy-Campus" exploratory project is investigating possible developments of the Vienna neighbourhood on Höchstädtplatz around the UAS Technikum Wien site into a mixed-use plus-energy quarter. The focus is on the expansion of the UAS Technikum with a new building as a Plus-Energy demonstration building, whose innovative components can also be used as a so-called "living lab" for teaching and research.

The objectives of the project lie in the following three areas:

Exploration of an energy-flexible plus-energy new build "Plus-Base"

  1. Plus-energy concept for new university building "Plus-Base"
  2. Energy and LCC optimisation of the design
  3. Quantification of innovative energy flexibility options
  4. Strengths and weaknesses analysis of the measures and variants considered
  5. Presentation of the interfaces with the neighbourhood, users, urban and energy planning and energy suppliers
  6. Creation of a decision-making basis for the realisation of this plus-energy demonstration building

Exploring this new university building as a "living lab"

  1. Identification of the framework conditions for the successful implementation of a living lab in the academic research and teaching context
  2. Needs assessment within the relevant higher education landscape, including higher technical colleges and general secondary schools
  3. Conceptualisation of the Plus-Base Living Lab, taking into account adapted forms of teaching and a vision for R&D projects

Exploring development paths towards a "Plus-Energy Campus" at the site

  1. Development of possible development scenarios for the neighbourhood into a "Plus-Energy-Campus" with the involvement of neighbourhood stakeholders
  2. Needs analysis: recording the specific requirements of the neighbourhood stakeholders for the campus
  3. Development of energy-flexible, grid-friendly neighbourhood solutions including mobility
  4. Quantification of the economic and ecological potential of plus-energy neighbourhood development with a focus on energy flexibility & climate adaptation
