Throughout the entire life cycle, the process and operation of building construction consumes a big amount of materials while causing a lot of CO2 emissions. The selection and use of sustainable building materials play an important role to help reduce this carbon footprint. In the center of this natureplus Late Lunch session are the so called LCAs, life cycle analyses. Life cycle analyses have been used in the building sector for more than 30 years and are an important tool for assessing environmental impacts. By identifying and quantifying energy and materials used and wastes released to the environment over the whole life cycle, LCAs also offer a framework to decide about the right use of sustainable building materials.
