IBO reference values for building materials

To date, IBO reference values have been set for more than 500 building materials. The building materials are assessed using the “cradle-to-gate” approach. This takes into account all of the processes up to the point when the product is ready for delivery to the customer. Material, transport and energy inputs as well as emissions into the air, soil, water and waste must be determined for each step in the process. The building materials are assessed using the SimaPro program, based on the ecoinvent database and in accordance with the requirements of EN15804:2012, and described using their global warming potential, primary energy, and other environmental indicators.

The IBO guidelines are continuously updated and expanded. Currently, the IBO guidelines are considered in:
• baubook Eco-Index,
• eco2soft,
• baubook standard,
• Energy performance certificate software from Archiphysik, ecotech, GEQ, AX3000, SCALE, madaster
• Building certification programs IBO ÖKOPASS, klimaaktiv, and ÖGNB
• Housing subsidy programs in Salzburg, Vorarlberg, Lower Austria, Styria, Carinthia, and Tyrol.
