The book shows how contemporary architecture responds to scarce resources, demographic change, new ways of living, and environmental demands. It is divided into three chapters: Social and Community Housing, Simple Construction, and Renovation, Expansion, and New Construction. Thirty-three projects from across Europe – from Portugal to Bosnia, from Oslo to Basel – are presented with floor plans, sections, construction drawings, photographs, and explanatory texts. These include social housing, cooperative and community-based models, as well as cost-reduction strategies, adaptive uses, and new building forms.
