PublicationsArchitecture, Building, City

First published in 2019 by Quart Verlag and now available again as a new edition, this large-format volume features numerous plans redrawn to scale based on Shinohara’s original working drawings, as well as hand sketches and archival photographs. Essays by architectural historian David B. Stewart (1942–2025) and architect Shin-ichi Okuyama – who, like Shinohara, taught as professors at the Tokyo Institute of Technology – contextualize the three buildings within his body of work and offer insights into his distinctive approach. A foreword by Ryue Nishizawa, co-founder of the world-renowned architectural firm SAANA, highlights Shinohara’s enduring influence in the present day.

The first edition of this magnificent book was honored in 2020 as one of the most beautiful Swiss books.
