Tall Wood Buildings
Design, Construction and Performance Third and expanded edition

The third, expanded edition of the book showcases spectacular examples of international timber construction from all over the world.

PublicationsArchitecture, Building, CityBuilding materials, Components

Multi-story urban timber construction has established itself as a promising building method in recent years: From London to Stockholm, from Vancouver to Melbourne, timber buildings with up to 20 stories are currently being constructed. This rapid development has been made possible by modular construction systems as well as adapted fire safety regulations. Added to this is the impeccable carbon footprint of this material, which is often sourced regionally.

This publication explains the various construction types – such as solid wood frame construction, hybrid wood/concrete or wood/steel structures, and glulam panel constructions – and then documents the versatility of this material through 17 completed projects. The structure and detailing of the buildings are illustrated by custom-drawn construction drawings. For this expanded new edition, the outlook section has been rewritten, and eight exemplary new projects have been added, including Haut Amsterdam, EDGE Südkreuz Berlin, and the Sara Cultural Center in Sweden.
