eLABoration Wood
Creation of teaching and learning materials on the subject of building ecology and sustainability

The ‘eLABoration Wood’ educational laboratory is the first initiative in Austria to combine the knowledge of wood-related institutions with the pedagogical and didactic methodologies of teacher training colleges and other education experts. Under the operational project management of the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, innovative teaching and learning materials are being developed in the general (non-wood-related) and wood-related education sectors, which are being designed, implemented, tested and evaluated on an interdisciplinary basis within the framework of the LAB.

Currently, training and further education as well as the development of teaching and learning materials in the forest-wood value chain take place individually and at different quality levels in individual educational establishments and institutions. New knowledge sometimes takes a long time to reach the classroom. Most teaching and learning materials are only available in analogue form. There is hardly any transfer of information between the individual training levels in timber construction and wood technology, although experience has shown that there is an overlap in the learning settings.

The aim of BildungsLAB is to develop, implement and disseminate teaching and learning materials throughout Austria that are as consistent, digital and haptic as possible in order to promote the contemporary and innovative use of wood in technical and general educational institutions.

The IBO has been commissioned to develop teaching and learning materials on the subject of building ecology and sustainability for the woodworking sector (e.g. teaching, HTL, master craftsman, bachelor's degree programmes, etc.). The central objective in this area is to support the qualified training of skilled workers (from apprentices to master craftsmen) with up-to-date teaching and learning materials in a contemporary form, thereby increasing the attractiveness and quality of training.

Beyond the end of the project, BildungsLAB will continue to be available as a permanent tool offering attractive, topic-specific content for all levels of general education (kindergarten to secondary school) and vocational training (initially focusing on timber construction/the timber industry).
