A new accommodation building was built in Feldbach, Styria. The modular construction method is designed to enable conversion and deconstruction as well as reuse. A great deal of commitment went into ecological optimisation; the building product management system ensured that only low-emission and low-pollutant products were installed. A special challenge was the coating of the wooden walls - they were to be oiled and of course solvent-free, low in pollutants and fast in processing and drying.
The efforts resulted in 950 points and thus a gold certification of the klimaaktiv standard. The accommodation modules are arranged in pairs and are accessible via the central area with staircase, common room and sanitary zone. The ancillary room zone and the general area are compactly arranged on the ground floor, with a separately accessible dirt lock and shoe washing room.
The client is the Republic of Austria - BMLV, represented by the Military Real Estate Management Centre. The planning was carried out by sps-architekten zt GmbH. The local construction supervision was carried out by the Military Service Centre 10 - Graz. The modules were manufactured in a joint venture by HandlerBau Gmbh and Strobl Holzbau Gmbh.
Certification and building product management by the IBO team accompanied the construction project, which was selected as klimaaktiv object of the month November 2022.
