Current methods of life cycle assessment of wood products show serious gaps, particularly with regard to manufacturing phases and the ability to visualize CO₂ storage in wood products over several product life cycles. Key2Store closes these gaps to enable a more realistic assessment of the environmental impact of wood as a building material in terms of its recyclability. In addition, efficient, digitally supported industry solutions and modular assessment tools for data collection and calculation of life cycle assessments are being developed. This solution comes at just the right time for the Austrian timber industry, which is strongly characterized by SMEs, as the disclosure of environmental impacts will be mandatory from 2030 onwards.
